Excellent outcome in Ofsted survey on enterprise, employability and employer engagement
"...exceptionally strong business partnerships." HMI

Alongside Ofsted's core inspection programme, inspectors also report on specific issues relating to aspects of education, learning and care. In January this year, Mark Rutherford School was selected to take part in a survey of enterprise, employability and employer engagement, aiming to address the question: 'How effectively do secondary schools engage with employers and business to provide high quality enterprise education and employability skills?' The findings of this survey will contribute to a national report, due to be published in the summer term.

An HMI inspector spent the day meeting with staff, business partners and students to assess the ways that the school is effectively engaging with local businesses. At the end of the visit, we received some extremely positive feedback; the inspector agreed Mark Rutherford is way ahead of other schools with its strong business partnership and mentoring programmes and felt that students were thoroughly supported in making their future education and career decisions. During the presentations, he was able to reference a lot of excellent, enterprising work and work-related projects being carried out in many departments such as Maths, Science, English, DT, Art, PE, and across all year groups.

Although a judgement isn't made on the school, as it would be in a core Ofsted visit, the school will be highlighted for its exceptional practice in the national report later this year.
